Me, outside, at a gig! I went to see a band called <a href="http://www.facebook.com/trophywifemusic">Trophy Wife</a> at <a href="http://www.facebook.com/group.php?sid=264aba2bd4a7a38933f4ecb2456b1f14&gid=2394594879&ref=search">The Cellar</a> in Oxford. The band are from Oxford, and I learnt last night are signed to <a href="http://www.moshimoshimusic.com/news/">Moshi Moshi</a> - which is pretty good going! Their headline set was short and sweet as they only have a few songs at the moment, but what they have is incredibly well put together, and definitely <a href="http://www.myspace.com/atrophywife">worth a listen</a>. They are currently touring to promote their new single 'The Quiet Earth', so if you get chance go and see them live.<br /><div style="text-align:center"><br /><object style="width: 400px; height: 292px;" width="400" height="292"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/esBL-v9sWeE?version=3"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/esBL-v9sWeE?version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" width="400" height="292"></embed></object><br /></div>Dave Emeryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08040920179419326827noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4137210163663161828.post-9490147757344853712011-02-26T11:24:00.007+00:002011-02-26T12:54:18.460+00:00Tea Towels, Life, and the Oxford Comma<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxngCq1qLWZke5o_xoQojB7nOBhiwxw2eKPm4XOee5eaUzQsSx8t-WYqZGd2zFnNrZp2IW20s0KiDniUD8E8a93UBQnLmQwwVoLdZUyspvU87kYoX0n4H-Qe-mRdLlACXXuctQaxpqHVo/s1600/IMG_1738-1.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 323px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxngCq1qLWZke5o_xoQojB7nOBhiwxw2eKPm4XOee5eaUzQsSx8t-WYqZGd2zFnNrZp2IW20s0KiDniUD8E8a93UBQnLmQwwVoLdZUyspvU87kYoX0n4H-Qe-mRdLlACXXuctQaxpqHVo/s400/IMG_1738-1.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5577967954392236498" /></a><br />Firstly, hello! It's been a while, but for good reason. I'm hoping to revive the blog - but before I do, I thought I should probably explain my absence a little bit. As you might already know, my other half and I own a business called <a href="http://www.todryfor.com/">ToDryFor.com</a> selling tea towels with design by some of the best illustrators / animators / graphic designers around. We were very quickly running out of space, so went on the hunt for business premises. We found an <a href="http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/place?hl=en&rlz=&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=comma+oxford&fb=1&gl=uk&hq=comma&hnear=Oxford&cid=18188432493417698590">awesome little shop space</a> not far from where we live, which we managed to get! The last 4/5 months has been spent setting it up and getting used to the life of shop owners. This has not left much time for anything else!<div><br /></div><div>We called the shop <a href="http://www.oxfordcomma.co.uk/">Comma</a> because Sally is a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_comma">grammar geek</a>, and we filled it with wonderous objects - mostly made by the individual artists that we were already working with. Our sign (see photo above) was painted by the incredibly talented Ben Javens, and we have a wall mural in the shop by the one and only Gemma Correll! It's such an amazing place to come to work every day. Here are some pics...</div><div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2i1iDme3BPlbrOYPHqm9mRrSznXyHWi4MU-SV80-_KK_ooEIxVjv2mnyiK4_PpNBwE3ovBaRAkF2A9eE030RgT4iXDCasTzlgjy4r7i_E9ehujAurOgC8KjDF46fDYMAsBG0mIb01a_0/s1600/IMG_1262.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 284px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2i1iDme3BPlbrOYPHqm9mRrSznXyHWi4MU-SV80-_KK_ooEIxVjv2mnyiK4_PpNBwE3ovBaRAkF2A9eE030RgT4iXDCasTzlgjy4r7i_E9ehujAurOgC8KjDF46fDYMAsBG0mIb01a_0/s400/IMG_1262.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5577967965736241938" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEOXFHUwuKwjg0G28iXcYvfURI-vZ0TwVE2CRz-h5UkUUu8kYwWj0zq4by0qraN5whGveTufuhJeb45Ub_kw0w4KSEAYnEUYQ1PANDXHmWOfQD01lvo8LvL_wKQtiBU-fkhLb2tRhyU0M/s1600/IMG_1258.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 267px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEOXFHUwuKwjg0G28iXcYvfURI-vZ0TwVE2CRz-h5UkUUu8kYwWj0zq4by0qraN5whGveTufuhJeb45Ub_kw0w4KSEAYnEUYQ1PANDXHmWOfQD01lvo8LvL_wKQtiBU-fkhLb2tRhyU0M/s400/IMG_1258.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5577967962014318290" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcPrA0eNf-mf_7Ya3HU-31-M6oUfBCYNjqxQZNm-dBjqmCTlu3hJbf4qZioF-jg6Lv3yG-agdz-OGSFYklkKBl6odEcNqMhFhczz1WpDFkZ5LT5RNcHOHaqFcZTSlktSCO3cYAmuZcPO8/s1600/IMG_1229.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcPrA0eNf-mf_7Ya3HU-31-M6oUfBCYNjqxQZNm-dBjqmCTlu3hJbf4qZioF-jg6Lv3yG-agdz-OGSFYklkKBl6odEcNqMhFhczz1WpDFkZ5LT5RNcHOHaqFcZTSlktSCO3cYAmuZcPO8/s400/IMG_1229.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5577967961115652402" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJIxZv5WgGyxBrP0eToxdpmnOAAKZtEE9BOiS8lsoszjcheTgOZVCjT8K8fhffXpZG6d-t0Mg5J_boMA_HPcGqYrBif4Sr-PTA2NNx8mStg5logPcRPmtHMayjJP5DmkfEn1-9fsd0GYs/s1600/IMG_1279.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 267px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJIxZv5WgGyxBrP0eToxdpmnOAAKZtEE9BOiS8lsoszjcheTgOZVCjT8K8fhffXpZG6d-t0Mg5J_boMA_HPcGqYrBif4Sr-PTA2NNx8mStg5logPcRPmtHMayjJP5DmkfEn1-9fsd0GYs/s400/IMG_1279.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5577967963118951106" /></a></div>Dave Emeryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08040920179419326827noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4137210163663161828.post-33983994753969932172010-06-01T22:58:00.008+01:002010-06-01T23:26:59.948+01:00Space - But Not As We Know It<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiizAEDnZPLyMewwM9s1ZigrjdQlcAcb-qL6cRYoCFWV5LgnndZgQBZQKhTa89mnVZ1ZtNbTwqgZSoz0eRi2BdPJV3Lrcehofpo-51zwjDu2bzoqCklyuJi_qD2HpeI2FhAVdy838Do0Qw/s1600/IMG_0109.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiizAEDnZPLyMewwM9s1ZigrjdQlcAcb-qL6cRYoCFWV5LgnndZgQBZQKhTa89mnVZ1ZtNbTwqgZSoz0eRi2BdPJV3Lrcehofpo-51zwjDu2bzoqCklyuJi_qD2HpeI2FhAVdy838Do0Qw/s400/IMG_0109.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5477928897581579218" /></a><br />So this is a picture heavy post, but so worth it! I was going through some old papers the other day, and I discovered this gem from my childhood (mixed in with old swimming certificates and school reports). It's an incredible book for children called 'Speeding Into Space'. It was first published in 1954 (my version's from 1962) by <a href="http://www.fulltable.com/iso/">ISOTYPE</a>, with words and awesome illustrations by <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marie_Neurath">Marie Neurath</a>. It is visually amazing, but also a moment captured in time - 'Some astronomers believe visitors may also find green plants growing on Mars' - amazing! Check out some pictures of the book below...<div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxyvi66t2EV0TH169uQhZioawxdn7G97hhUZUDaxh5mOYJlW9koRgqlUsZl2wBl6uDsz9atoDs9Vw4W3mlkrFtfGguu07fjAUY1orSnMw6bWNmXC81Zh88YYPgnJ-zTv_yB4UR982Lc78/s1600/IMG_0099.JPG"><img style="display:block; That's right, we went outside. To <a href="http://www.bourtoninfo.com/">Bourton-on-the-Water</a> last Saturday to be precise. It's a lovely village in the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cotswolds">Cotswolds</a> with all the charm (and many ice cream shops) that keeps the tourists coming back for more. This was our second visit, after stumbling across it a couple of years ago on a random drive around. The pièce de résistance of the village (in my opinion) is <a href="http://www.birdland.co.uk/default.asp">Birdland</a> - a slightly tired looking festival of our feathered friends. Their trump card though is the <a href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/nature/species/King_Penguin">king penguins</a>, which looked so majestic in the sunshine. Not to be missed though is the minor bird (a new addition that keeps shouting 'morning!!') and the 'big as a man's leg' trout. If that can't hold your attention - visit the <a href="http://www.theoldnewinn.co.uk/village.htm">model village</a> to see a mini model version of the village (no surprises there then) that also contains the 9th wonder of the world (their claim) - a model village of the model village in the model village.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhT3G8vq_wi3yXfkxEeEd8FqgsPDvq_KFGxBtWGhfq6zJ4fnVzYF0iDal4ZEkLhXoPLA6nFlf6-HKX0iZm4tVplIxQj7oS5M3HrELLyn2xjwWVZLK370fa49la8FfOEZB0qUzs8iIyNsmg/s1600/IMG_2707.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 267px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhT3G8vq_wi3yXfkxEeEd8FqgsPDvq_KFGxBtWGhfq6zJ4fnVzYF0iDal4ZEkLhXoPLA6nFlf6-HKX0iZm4tVplIxQj7oS5M3HrELLyn2xjwWVZLK370fa49la8FfOEZB0qUzs8iIyNsmg/s400/IMG_2707.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5465617687768154658" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnYncijy50SiZAFP0J7b7K6Wm0TnjT9i97t_MvR-Gy7aKDwSo4YRutNxCZSZpP2A1g4KuWFTTm795zlZyKjya6nDV5sp5s88XEHfeoWNf7L3kooPU4g3h6R1y7mPfFL4s98nU7R6xbWAU/s1600/IMG_2745.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnYncijy50SiZAFP0J7b7K6Wm0TnjT9i97t_MvR-Gy7aKDwSo4YRutNxCZSZpP2A1g4KuWFTTm795zlZyKjya6nDV5sp5s88XEHfeoWNf7L3kooPU4g3h6R1y7mPfFL4s98nU7R6xbWAU/s400/IMG_2745.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5465617695459114050" /></a>Dave Emeryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08040920179419326827noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4137210163663161828.post-61149286774056838262010-04-09T17:08:00.006+01:002010-04-09T17:27:14.142+01:00Eye Candy<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIYfTv_CwRs6jxT6C15bYQ_hUbxBXejgpsEG4mM0dnFtjJ0hdRKAJr0-Jr29NioJAgPD3luYrYACkoghUF-1An92t76M3ufZr0SPDcAaXUvFVxqbeWN5AUwUeB2yB0xLk9lWnRBJQSwgU/s1600/IMG_2647.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 274px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIYfTv_CwRs6jxT6C15bYQ_hUbxBXejgpsEG4mM0dnFtjJ0hdRKAJr0-Jr29NioJAgPD3luYrYACkoghUF-1An92t76M3ufZr0SPDcAaXUvFVxqbeWN5AUwUeB2yB0xLk9lWnRBJQSwgU/s400/IMG_2647.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5458170649293421170" /></a>What a beauty I hear you say? Best looking confectionery you ever saw? That's right my friends. This is a potato candy (given as an after dinner treat by <a href="http://flissrussellatdarnedwithfaintpraise.blogspot.com/">Fliss</a>), made by <a href="http://www.sees.com/">See's Candy</a> of America in honour of <a href="http://www.allfancydress.com/Fancy-Dress-Costumes/939/St-Patricks-Day-Fancy-Dress-Costumes.aspx">St Patrick's Day</a>. I know that was about a month ago, but I'm catching up. It looks like a chocolate scotch egg, that's been adorned with some rice crispies to make it look that bit more authentic/potato like. It's possibly the sweetest thing I have ever tasted (and I'm from Blackpool so I've eaten a lot of rock in my time), and the ingredients read like a who's who of chemical discovery. I urge you to fly to America now just to snuffle down one of these...Dave Emeryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08040920179419326827noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4137210163663161828.post-52868360163129548692010-04-08T12:02:00.004+01:002010-04-08T12:11:11.541+01:00Out of hibernation!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiixAdQMAdbrCvRrPVHxwXYAyMfjAGogVR_NwDio7fm2QFHVtvE3JNrDojk52GKBX2gYcNYYHEd2U8MKzqB-roQaR54jLsnoN5k1P4VyFaouQXJRFMm__Nb9IXwE-xaNlQxcM5URo20Wi4/s1600/IMG_2562.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiixAdQMAdbrCvRrPVHxwXYAyMfjAGogVR_NwDio7fm2QFHVtvE3JNrDojk52GKBX2gYcNYYHEd2U8MKzqB-roQaR54jLsnoN5k1P4VyFaouQXJRFMm__Nb9IXwE-xaNlQxcM5URo20Wi4/s400/IMG_2562.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5457720984097318018" /></a>All the Easter chocolate has gone, the garden is coming back to life and as the days get lighter I'm finding a bit more time to do some fun stuff. We just spent new year in <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rome">Rome</a> with our friends Rachel and Ben (you should really check out their blog if you haven't already - <a href="http://3prosecco4.blogspot.com/">3<span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">prosecco</span>4</a>). We gambled through the city one day (when the weather was fine) to visit the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ara_Pacis">Ara <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">Pacis</span></a> (pictured above in a rough Hockney-<span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">esque</span> way), which is situated on the edge of the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiber_River">river Tiber</a> in (what I think is) a gorgeous modern building designed by American architect <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Meier">Richard Meier</a>. The right-wing mayor of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rome">Rome</a> has threatened to tear it down, which I think would be a real shame as it compliments the surrounding ancient buildings, without detracting from them, or it's important contents.</span><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;">Anyway, the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ara_Pacis">Ara <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">Pacis</span></a> (the alter to peace) is incredibly detailed, and very well preserved - well worth a visit (especially if you have a guide with as much knowledge as Ben does)! As an extra visitor bonus there is currently an exhibition running downstairs showing Italian patents for some incredible, and some not so incredible Italian designs and inventions. These include varieties of pasta, shoes, cars and webbed gloves (see the last photo). I'm pretty sure that last one falls into the not so incredible - but I might be wrong!</span></div><div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;"><br /></span><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiH6x2HD8vyVQfAzazxnP2LTJ4MiUKWqVb9rXMuN1AC6GQ68KRWHqhbK5RGSrhrbZ88nCB1Lv6k_FPOAFNAaHyWF4R0Fuifaz80EkovhBc1nn3IRnN_LMTDpZvF8SC_ac4RX1DQbOJjYi8/s1600-h/IMG_4955.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiH6x2HD8vyVQfAzazxnP2LTJ4MiUKWqVb9rXMuN1AC6GQ68KRWHqhbK5RGSrhrbZ88nCB1Lv6k_FPOAFNAaHyWF4R0Fuifaz80EkovhBc1nn3IRnN_LMTDpZvF8SC_ac4RX1DQbOJjYi8/s400/IMG_4955.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5424891566552910514" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiG181_zFMa3iKEqQ_d4j5E_FNP5bbQTchpzdC-SJKHQh50IF9JxCGjbUTn73kyv5kd0plALFF4YdeyLmaHFoHFMhct1ezeLqDfqGXYIv0wPmQY-dyALg0diZZDkcAUOzACQsYaNuwSCCE/s1600-h/IMG_4966-1.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiG181_zFMa3iKEqQ_d4j5E_FNP5bbQTchpzdC-SJKHQh50IF9JxCGjbUTn73kyv5kd0plALFF4YdeyLmaHFoHFMhct1ezeLqDfqGXYIv0wPmQY-dyALg0diZZDkcAUOzACQsYaNuwSCCE/s400/IMG_4966-1.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5424891577059886658" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjc01INv8nOwT9wRkhrOkhiOmeppoPYUQkq6GO4oyG1a5pQXtWAjJfuK6VgseEzZohO-wtbGO4sxRD9r-RxrULUbG8nIReINf9fV3BMi3LhS8EkZgoU4QjVm4vQ2DCr_v6luWGJD-NJW-Q/s1600-h/IMG_4968-1.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjc01INv8nOwT9wRkhrOkhiOmeppoPYUQkq6GO4oyG1a5pQXtWAjJfuK6VgseEzZohO-wtbGO4sxRD9r-RxrULUbG8nIReINf9fV3BMi3LhS8EkZgoU4QjVm4vQ2DCr_v6luWGJD-NJW-Q/s400/IMG_4968-1.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5424891580860069762" /></a></div></div>Dave Emeryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08040920179419326827noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4137210163663161828.post-15429348590312874672010-01-07T22:26:00.004+00:002010-01-07T22:49:32.662+00:00Happy New Year!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvhLctwXX1KBbwsUC2O9PD7XiEN515spHAcGWmkzBuH8lDT_p5WUYx9QXV-o1sWksqRF2kx2mgYiTeq-hpl7AwJR30_SVe5JsgXfgEZ9b6txFuLfZOQY4nNlftD5rjahQ4c7uWa0A18R4/s1600-h/IMG_1998-1.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 332px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvhLctwXX1KBbwsUC2O9PD7XiEN515spHAcGWmkzBuH8lDT_p5WUYx9QXV-o1sWksqRF2kx2mgYiTeq-hpl7AwJR30_SVe5JsgXfgEZ9b6txFuLfZOQY4nNlftD5rjahQ4c7uWa0A18R4/s400/IMG_1998-1.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5424131053625780914" /></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;">Firstly, happy new year everyone! Things have been manic, but I'm catching up. The good news is that I've got a plethora of new content to post in the coming weeks including all the exciting and amazing things I got for Christmas, the trials and tribulations of owning a beard, various trip updates (museums, countries etc.) and lots of fun bits and bobs. I will post a lot more - honest. I will not let this blog slip into the abyss. Even if no-one is reading it... ha! It's such a lovely city - not just criminal courts! I don't normally do high street shops as every high street in the UK pretty much looks the same. It's not until you venture somewhere special that you find interesting quirky shops (like <a href="http://columbiaroad.info/">Columbia Rd</a> in London, for example). The nice thing about being in foreign climes is that even the high street shops are new and exciting! My favourites this time were <a href="http://www.dille-kamille.com/">Dille and Kamille</a> and <a href="http://www.vd.nl/vendWebShop/index.jsf">V&D</a>. <a href="http://www.dille-kamille.com/">Dille and Kamille</a> (the last two pictures) is a gorgeous shop that sells all the basics that you could possibly need for the home. It's a treasure trove of everything from gorgeous natural bent-wood chairs to kitchen utensils I didn't even know I needed! <a href="http://www.vd.nl/vendWebShop/index.jsf">V&D</a> is a department store, but the food counters had me drooling. The marzipan fruits (above) and the bizarre hog roast styled pigs (below) really did taste as good as they looked!</span><div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYC75U9JJKFyIUDNmlh-neJ_vf4NGVxfRGcGTVJrOvJK2dsLw-IpZitpmCa76vCfUuWraUB6NZCsPhvdh0ggphmy-BDg0tY-XnvwRdK_b9TVngD7XaXshXrTBo_UTj2jrZnpYy4-qf6pg/s1600-h/IMG_1625.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYC75U9JJKFyIUDNmlh-neJ_vf4NGVxfRGcGTVJrOvJK2dsLw-IpZitpmCa76vCfUuWraUB6NZCsPhvdh0ggphmy-BDg0tY-XnvwRdK_b9TVngD7XaXshXrTBo_UTj2jrZnpYy4-qf6pg/s400/IMG_1625.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5399271322394700034" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHSnlOYxEZ_vOQqvM2ZvhC6gZj5OtZCfJ4O1T1DZfbeQw6RurTZc6CzgwyvzDT9-ZAUbZ8CspzT2zkX7TsvoWcI6MQShZv8QGdFmj29Mp117gazNsNb7acI1M6t_z2CztKMD3HwdPD1bI/s1600-h/IMG_1623.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHSnlOYxEZ_vOQqvM2ZvhC6gZj5OtZCfJ4O1T1DZfbeQw6RurTZc6CzgwyvzDT9-ZAUbZ8CspzT2zkX7TsvoWcI6MQShZv8QGdFmj29Mp117gazNsNb7acI1M6t_z2CztKMD3HwdPD1bI/s400/IMG_1623.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5399271317327426482" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWqG8AS_T9ZCeLElCbW30KPZWRKcRC0LiGU8Y3EAU9YA8-lYE4dq4b-s9XxiDts9LRAUhyphenhypheneDXpzCGyxhIpr5snVyOUIbHWTNN1pSRN-mH4BebXk3C9xWwY99PT8TR2bDxtYDmNkpDQ8Ss/s1600-h/IMG_1619.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWqG8AS_T9ZCeLElCbW30KPZWRKcRC0LiGU8Y3EAU9YA8-lYE4dq4b-s9XxiDts9LRAUhyphenhypheneDXpzCGyxhIpr5snVyOUIbHWTNN1pSRN-mH4BebXk3C9xWwY99PT8TR2bDxtYDmNkpDQ8Ss/s400/IMG_1619.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5399271316488709442" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnWPSUCuyhlVd6SmkWGzx1NZspV0_-p23FQkaUvyi7tRhdPAjElL9TJGV_XGyC2L90t62FMTOBKAFxDRQMGlv-DHuwPZ09VsLze8zwvYYdWHh-7zT7mZbtEHp847iJ4BytVRnltHRFg1Y/s1600-h/IMG_1616.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnWPSUCuyhlVd6SmkWGzx1NZspV0_-p23FQkaUvyi7tRhdPAjElL9TJGV_XGyC2L90t62FMTOBKAFxDRQMGlv-DHuwPZ09VsLze8zwvYYdWHh-7zT7mZbtEHp847iJ4BytVRnltHRFg1Y/s400/IMG_1616.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5399271310557879810" /></a><br /></div>Dave Emeryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08040920179419326827noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4137210163663161828.post-21085010653749135042009-10-28T21:56:00.001+00:002009-10-28T22:03:20.586+00:00Sunny Day Sets Fire<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwumo-6ABzfQT9j4RNDuWZq3jbzLnRzKHC566hyphenhyphen5I_lmkt89zgfVvstspDEEOCOi3hXiiEyJ49-Noq6N5g4-8ePZCgc5M9hpKZONTYicU-i-XDHaNJsf3RHhT-dm2EzwkSqX0NU7v9ZfA/s1600-h/sunnydaysetsfire.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 371px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwumo-6ABzfQT9j4RNDuWZq3jbzLnRzKHC566hyphenhyphen5I_lmkt89zgfVvstspDEEOCOi3hXiiEyJ49-Noq6N5g4-8ePZCgc5M9hpKZONTYicU-i-XDHaNJsf3RHhT-dm2EzwkSqX0NU7v9ZfA/s400/sunnydaysetsfire.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5387567059353148834" /></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;">I'm full of home made pizza, so adrenaline is the last thing coursing through my body at the moment. The <a href="http://www.last.fm/music/Sunny+Day+Sets+Fire/+wiki">band</a> is based in London, but is made up of a group of musicians from all over the globe. On the left is a print called '<a href="http://www.gavinpotenza.com/store/">Orange</a>' - a 4x6" limited edition print by the awesome <a href="http://www.gavinpotenza.com/">Gavin Potenza</a>. It only cost £4 including shipping from the US! How mega ace is that! On the right is a print that I don't really know a great deal about. We bought it in April this year from a pop up gallery called <a href="http://www.kin-shop.co.uk/">Kin</a>, which had opened for a couple of months in <a href="http://www.carnaby.co.uk/static_content.cfm?page_id=20">Kingly Court</a> (just off Carnaby St. in London). It cost £30, and is called 'The Adventure Ends Here'. I think the artist is called Adam Gate, but that's all I know. Although the message is a bit sinister, it's so bright and cheery - a juxtaposition if ever there was one.</span></div>Dave Emeryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08040920179419326827noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4137210163663161828.post-11753272222934902772009-10-25T15:43:00.003+00:002009-10-25T15:58:04.899+00:00Sunday Sewing Fun<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWrI94Z5yXcLbm0SJ5Bo_pRkpoXP52N26FtgXFOEwlctVCGtbc798GffP9P-tN59wTWrull3G36lYmczg2azYTPi8x7CXDB0FhvHBj1oT8q-Ti4mfYorPfFtkhKsUtCHGT0-r4jN6Frg0/s1600-h/cushion.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWrI94Z5yXcLbm0SJ5Bo_pRkpoXP52N26FtgXFOEwlctVCGtbc798GffP9P-tN59wTWrull3G36lYmczg2azYTPi8x7CXDB0FhvHBj1oT8q-Ti4mfYorPfFtkhKsUtCHGT0-r4jN6Frg0/s400/cushion.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5396564009633329986" /></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;">What better way is there to spend a Sunday other than having a make and do day! We needed a new cushion for our lovely grey chair in the kitchen - the previous one had soaked up red wine just once too often. We decided to use a <a href="http://www.todryfor.com/">tea towel</a> for the front (<a href="http://www.todryfor.com/towel.asp?id=131">'Bake Me' by Julia Pott</a> in this instance), and the inside of the old cushion for the back. On the 12th-13th October this year <a href="http://www.oxfordpreservation.org.uk/">Oxford Preservation Trust</a> organised <a href="http://www.oxfordopendoors.org.uk/">Oxford Open Doors</a> - an event that spanned our <a href="http://www.oxfordcity.co.uk/">amazing city</a>, and opened normally closed off places to the general public. We met some awesome people that day - even getting a private guided tour of <a href="http://www.sacred-destinations.com/england/oxford-christ-church-cathedral.htm">Christ Church Cathedral</a> by one of the super friendly cleaners! It's incredible to think what's hidden behind those enormous walls, and it was a real privilege to have a sneak peek at just a small portion (so thanks <a href="http://www.oxfordpreservation.org.uk/">OPT</a>)! The pictures included here are just a small collection of those I snapped - see what you missed!?</span><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;"><br /></span><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfS2980V82vTGTsXykfcxgwr65Zv1fFbge-J0xFAiZlsp07Pch0kuj36Wg5ID1yM9mnn-hq0DDrRzbxKuTLv4jJOXKWmBrFugEr6cGhBTrFLu81wVnTug_SoMXV2oaceYh6DDgk_Z-qDc/s1600-h/IMG_1246.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfS2980V82vTGTsXykfcxgwr65Zv1fFbge-J0xFAiZlsp07Pch0kuj36Wg5ID1yM9mnn-hq0DDrRzbxKuTLv4jJOXKWmBrFugEr6cGhBTrFLu81wVnTug_SoMXV2oaceYh6DDgk_Z-qDc/s400/IMG_1246.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5388866512232136114" /></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;"><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">Candles in </span><a href="http://www.sacred-destinations.com/england/oxford-christ-church-cathedral.htm"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">Christ Church Cathedral</span></a></div></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;"><br /></span></span><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiyPZ0wg4r-lsXIs48Gsh2eUb7aN3-kNkKwcC7pEtjbfyEY5waIwqtJ2pRfpbDbbGM75fgThmY7gZ7fs5diBYMGirZc50kAj6eFI6wlEDiQY18J2_uBxPDlXca7Kp5DicmIrjvmLJQ0zM/s1600-h/IMG_1242.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiyPZ0wg4r-lsXIs48Gsh2eUb7aN3-kNkKwcC7pEtjbfyEY5waIwqtJ2pRfpbDbbGM75fgThmY7gZ7fs5diBYMGirZc50kAj6eFI6wlEDiQY18J2_uBxPDlXca7Kp5DicmIrjvmLJQ0zM/s400/IMG_1242.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5388866507247043714" /></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;"><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">The </span><a href="http://www.sacred-destinations.com/england/oxford-christ-church-cathedral.htm"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">St. Frideswide Window</span></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;"> by </span><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Burne-Jones"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">Edward Burne-Jones</span></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;"> in 1858. Anyway, with that in mind I've started to think about all things warm. I came across <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5219973">Yokoo</a> and her wondrous woolens a while ago, but now we have hit October it seems like a good time to mention <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5219973">her wares</a>. All <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5219973">Yokoo</a> knits are hand made to order, which means you can choose the exact colour you want (it takes 2 weeks to deliver). The <a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=31803990">above</a> (called the <a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=31803990">soopa scarf</a>) is over 8 foot long, and 8 and half inches wide, and I can't think of anything nicer to keep me snug at night. There are <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5219973">other options</a> - if that's a bit too long for you. Me? This is a Brooklyn band called <a href="http://wearethedrums.com/">The Drums</a>, and I think they are ace. I just discovered them via <a href="http://vimeo.com/">Vimeo</a> after watching their <a href="http://vimeo.com/6006644">super cool video</a> for <a href="http://vimeo.com/6006644">Let's Go Surfing</a>. You know I never leave you hanging - if you like them you can <a href="http://rcrdlbl.com/2009/07/07/exclusive_new_download_the_drums_let_s_go_surfing_digital_single">download the single</a> for free from <a href="http://rcrdlbl.com/">rcrdlbl</a>. Wow! Pop it on your ipod, and run along a deserted beach in the dark! Actually, that doesn't sound too safe. Oh yeah - almost forgot - you can go watch them doing their thing <a href="http://www.myspace.com/thedrumsforever">live on stage</a> in various UK cities (mainly London). Check out the band's <a href="http://www.myspace.com/thedrumsforever">myspace</a> for dates - and while you are there, have a listen to Submarine (which is also super dance along fun). Video follows for fun...</span><div><br /><object width="400" height="225"><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><param name="movie" value="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=6006644&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=0&color=&fullscreen=1"><embed src="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=6006644&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=0&color=&fullscreen=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" width="400" height="225"></embed></object><br /><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;">Picture via <a href="http://www.myspace.com/thedrumsforever">myspace</a></span></div>Dave Emeryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08040920179419326827noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4137210163663161828.post-6138515123943078182009-08-30T15:20:00.004+01:002009-08-30T15:32:16.460+01:00Badge r<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0iTIgueWI_M5xzGK_-7U9FKnejTE1_OlqschFlO5nel84-kjZ8S-cv7TsHaGvYrrzfXQE4OnkqV4zCojh3b3Xwp0PHRyWTxDEgzw846-umnA8A8XAZndssgliKCzZq8rzd_c7qaz6hmM/s1600-h/IMG_1154.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0iTIgueWI_M5xzGK_-7U9FKnejTE1_OlqschFlO5nel84-kjZ8S-cv7TsHaGvYrrzfXQE4OnkqV4zCojh3b3Xwp0PHRyWTxDEgzw846-umnA8A8XAZndssgliKCzZq8rzd_c7qaz6hmM/s400/IMG_1154.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5375762133853479522" /></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:arial;"><a href="http://www.yourbooty.co.uk/">Car boot sales</a> are amazing - a staple event of the British summertime. You should check them out if only to see all the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pug">pugs</a> that frequent them! They are the perfect place to pick up those rare cast offs that people have had stored in drawers for the past 20 years. Pictured is a collection of badges we bought this morning for 40p - now that's going to make your day! I wonder who thought to put 'I heart Deutsch!' on a badge!? It's called '<a href="http://skinnyships.bigcartel.com/product/things-i-like">Things I Like</a>', and it literally contains all the things I like - what a coincidence! It was created by US graphic designer <a href="http://skinnyships.bigcartel.com/about">Richard Perez</a> (aka <a href="http://skinnyships.bigcartel.com/">Skinny Ships</a>) in a limited edition of 100, and I can't wait to get it on the wall.
